For the past six years, supporting Beautiful You by Profile has been incredibly meaningful to Linsey and me. But this year, that relationship became deeply personal.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer, I (Maria) went from being a supporter of Beautiful You by Profile to being one of the women they cared for.
So many of us have watched someone we love walk through this disease, and for some of us, suddenly, unexpectedly, that person becomes us.
Beautiful You by Profile is a nonprofit organization in Grand Rapids, MI that provides complimentary salon and spa services to women and girls undergoing cancer treatment. Through their Beautiful You Mondays, I experienced firsthand what their mission truly means.
Cancer can make you feel incredibly vulnerable. Treatment changes your body, your hair, your energy, and sometimes even the person you recognize in the mirror. Things we might once have called vanity suddenly become something much deeper, a connection to yourself, your dignity, and your sense of normalcy.
On a Beautiful You Monday, I was pampered. I was cared for. And most importantly, I was reminded that I could still feel beautiful.
I will never take that feeling for granted again.
The kindness and genuine goodness of the Beautiful You team deepened my connection to this organization, and it inspired us at LIMA to do something more.
During the month of October, for every SHE candle purchased, LIMA will donate one candle to Beautiful You by Profile.
Those donated candles will be given to women coming to Beautiful You Mondays, a small reminder that while they are walking through one of the hardest seasons of their lives, they are seen, supported, and surrounded by love.
